With Suzon, we delved into the myth of Medusa, a figure both feared and despised by all, often depicted as monstrous. However, behind this terrifying portrayal lies a chilling story: a courageous woman who said no to Poseidon, only to be raped afterward. In punishment, Athena, instead of punishing the true culprit, inflicted a cruel curse on Medusa, giving her a terrifying appearance with snakes for hair and a deadly gaze.
This myth exposes the deep flaws in our society, reinforcing rape culture and oppressive patriarchal structures. Yet, in recent years, Medusa has emerged as a symbol of resistance against sexual violence and patriarchy. With Suzon, we sought to rewrite her story, removing the distorted patriarchal lens that sexualizes women's bodies and silences those who dare to say no.
Suzon crafted this snake headpiece out of fabric, giving the snakes a soft, harmless appearance to contrast with the terrifying image ingrained in the collective imagination.
